A Journey of Language, Growth, and Autism Perspectives: Stephen’s Evolution

Stars to Sunrise: Moving to YouTube

Stephen McHugh Episode 60

A profound shift is underway as I'm planning to transition from audio podcasting to YouTube. Visual media, I believe, will allow me to share autistic experiences more fully, through body language, facial expression, and presence beyond words.

For a few years now, I’ve been “speaking beneath stars in the night sky,” offering quiet reflection through audio. Now, “the sky is brightening — a new day is dawning,” and I’m stepping into the light, where visibility and community will be able to grow and flourish.

This is more than just video. More importantly for me, it’s about connections. The YouTube’s comment section may invite conversations, thus creating space for deeper engagements with those who may value metaphor as a bridge between minds.

My plan is to launch my channel on September 17th, starting with an intro and a video on why metaphors can matter in neurodivergent storytelling. Until then, I’ll be posting idiom inspired stories on my blog (stephensevolution.com). This can be a playful way to stay connected.

Whether you're a long-time listener or just discovering my work, I invite you to join me in this next part of my journey.  Be part of a community where autistic experiences will not only heard, but seen.

Stephen McHugh:

Hi there and welcome back to another episode of the Stephen's Evolution podcast. I'm Stephen McHugh, your host, and it is in this podcast where I talk about my autistic lived experiences, by aiming to bring them to life through metaphors. After much thought, I had made a decision to do a focus more on YouTube for experiences, on video as well as audio. It can be here where you notice as well as hear audio, body language, what that says, and also more in terms of personal expression. I also aim to, through YouTube, through its searchability, to help bring in more in terms of organic traffic, and reach a wider number of listeners. In addition, there's also the building of well, community building building. One can comment, like and subscribe for faster, direct engagement, and make it easier to continue any particular conversation in relation to a video.

Stephen McHugh:

For some time, metaphorically speaking, I've been like, "speaking beneath stars in the night sky, like being in a quiet and reflective space, sharing my world with people listening in the background. But right now it feels like the sky is getting brighter, a new day is dawning and slowly, a new light appears to be breaking through as I become more visible. At the same time, the plan is for the journey to continue on YouTube, but the only difference is you will be seeing as well as hearing me. The heart of the message will remain the same, but it will be in a space where light and presence can flourish. For those of you who may have already listened to me regularly in the past episodes, I thank you for your support to date. I thank you for your support to date. Thanks for being here during these gentler and quieter hours. I mean this metaphorically. I hope you can join me in this new light.

Stephen McHugh:

And, before I go, a reminder that I'm going to be taking a bit of a summer break as I prepare for the launch of my planned YouTube channel on the 17th of September. At first on the channel, to begin with, there'll be an intro followed by a video to do with how phrases like metaphors are important to me.

Stephen McHugh:

In the meantime, what I'll be doing is sharing some short, idiom-inspired stories on my blog, stephensevolution. com. It's just a light and playful way to stay connected over the holidays. I've already got some on there already. Thanks for reading and listening and following along. I look forward to sharing some more content with you soon, thank you
